Dior’s Fashion Highlights

At SBE we love all things fashion, design & art. We like to share information which catches our eye, which interests and excites us. Christian Dior is one of fashions treasured idols. 

Christian Dior born into a wealthy family and was trained for the French Foreign Service but in the midst of the financial crisis of the 1930s he went to work illustrating fashions for the weekly Figaro Illustré. In 1938 he became an assistant designer for the leading couturier of Paris, whose creations dominated world fashion in the following decades since  following WWII

In 1947, Dior was backed by French entrepreneur Marcel Boussac , Dior introduced the revolutionary New Look, spurring international controversy over its radically shorter hemline. 

Upon Dior’s death in 1957, his assistant Yves Saint Laurent took over the couture house. Saint Laurent held this position until 1960, when he was drafted into the French army. Subsequent creative directors at the House of Dior included Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferrè and John Galliano.

So it was sad to see a ‘upheaval in the creative department of the  House of Christian Dior.  The Parisian couture house that is the cornerstone of the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton luxury empire, announced on Thursday that the artistic director Raf Simons  was leaving the brand. No replacement has been named.’ 

Dior company was has been under the controll of and chaired by French businessman Bernard Arnault, who also heads LVMH, the world’s largest luxury group. Dior itself holds 42.36% shares of and 59.01% voting rights within LVMH. Sidney Toledano has been the Vice Chairman & CEO since 1997. Today Maria Grazia and Chiuri  Kim Jones are Creative Directors
